Higgsfield Katana: Workflow, Cost & Alternatives
Raindance AI’s Bulin 47 Muse example, not a Katana result. Generated results vary.

Higgsfield Katana lets you rebuild a video edit with your own people, products or clothing inside Claude. Start with a reference video or a preset, add your assets, then describe what should stay and what should change. It is useful when you already know the edit you want.

If your aim is simply to turn a photo into a short social video, a ready-made template is another starting point. This guide explains both workflows so you can choose without confusing Katana with the separate templates available on Raindance AI.

What is Higgsfield Katana?

Higgsfield describes Katana as a skill for Claude, connected through Higgsfield MCP. Claude is the conversation interface; Higgsfield supplies the generation tools and account credits. The official launch uses the name Claude Motion, while the detailed guide explains the reference-led editing workflow.

A reference supplies the shot order, pacing and overall edit. Up to five photos supply the characters, products or clothing. Written instructions describe the details to preserve or change. You can upload your own reference or choose a library preset: you do not always need to bring a video yourself.

Higgsfield says the result appears in the conversation and in your Higgsfield Assets. It describes an MP4 matching the reference’s duration, aspect ratio and frame rate. These are provider descriptions, not results of a hands-on Katana test by Raindance AI.

How to use Katana in Claude

  1. Open the official Katana page and choose a preset or prepare a reference you have permission to use.
  2. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector. Use the name Higgsfield and the server address https://mcp.higgsfield.ai/mcp, then authorize your Higgsfield account.
  3. With the connector active, type /katana to open the preset catalog. You can also start on the Katana website and choose Send & Generate in Claude.
  4. Add up to five photos with clear roles: for example, one person and one product. Follow the Higgsfield upload window in the chat. The official guide warns that ordinary Claude image attachments are not automatically passed through as Katana reference files; a direct media-file link also works.
  5. Describe what to preserve, check the quoted credit cost, and confirm only when the setup is correct.
  6. Review the whole result before requesting a revision. Check faces, product shape, cuts, text and sound. Describe the shot that needs changing rather than asking for an unspecified improvement.

A useful starting instruction is: “Keep the three-shot structure. Use my product photo for the package, preserve its shape and label, and change only the middle shot’s background. Show the credit estimate before generating.” This is a suggested brief, not a tested prompt or a guarantee of exact reproduction.

What does Katana cost?

The official guide requires an active Higgsfield subscription. Katana uses the credits of that plan, with no separate MCP billing or markup for using it inside Claude. A credit estimate appears before generation. New versions and corrections that require generation may cost more.

There is no single per-video price confirmed in that guide. Check your current plan and the quote for the actual job. A short first result followed by several revisions can cost more than the first estimate alone. A connector without a separate surcharge does not mean free generation.

Which workflow fits your project?

Choose Katana when the arrangement of an existing edit matters: its sequence of shots, pacing, a product presentation, or revisions through Claude. Prepare both the reference and the assets that need to appear in it.

Choose a photo template when you already like a specific example and want to put yourself into that kind of scene without setting up a Claude connector. On Raindance AI, you select a scene and upload the requested photos; the template supplies the scene and motion instructions.

Both approaches can start from a preset. The useful distinction is how much editing control you need and which finished scene you want. Raindance AI’s templates do not provide Katana’s conversational editing workflow or promise to reproduce an arbitrary reference video shot for shot.

Use a clear photo with the subject’s face visible and follow the selected template’s instructions. Watch the entire generated clip before sharing. Our published Muse examples illustrate creative directions; they are not Katana outputs or a promise that every generation will match them.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to upload a reference video?

Not when you choose a Katana library preset. To rebuild a particular edit of your own, provide that reference. Raindance AI’s photo templates use the selected scene without asking you to upload a reference video.

Can I use Katana without Claude?

The official workflow checked for this guide runs through Claude and the Higgsfield connector. Starting on the Katana webpage still sends the brief to Claude. Raindance AI opens its own separate web Studio.

Is Katana free, or included with Claude?

Higgsfield documents an active Higgsfield subscription and generation credits. Access to Claude alone is not evidence that Katana generation is included for free.

Does “editable” mean an After Effects project?

Do not assume that. The guide describes follow-up changes in Claude and MP4 delivery; it does not establish that every result exports as a layered project for another editor.
